As you know Google Cloud VMware Engine was available for use for quite sometimes now.

  • Seamlessly migrate and run your VMware workloads without refactoring your applications.

  • One can run workloads in a native VMware environment—vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, NSX-T, and HCX—while benefiting from Google Cloud’s highly performant infrastructure to meet the needs of enterprise workloads.

  • Run on a fully managed, native VMware Cloud Foundation software stack.

  • Leverage existing tools to simplify management across hybrid cloud environments.

- Provision a VMware environment can be completed in minutes. Billing, identity, and access control are integrated to unify the experience.

  • Unlock intelligent insights - connect to native Google Cloud services such as BigQuery and Cloud AI to derive new insights from existing data and quickly make informed decisions.

Now here is the good news for the enterprises.

As of April 1, 2021, Google Cloud VMware Engine is covered under the Google Cloud Business Associate Agreement (BAA), meaning it has achieved HIPAA compliance. Healthcare organizations can now migrate and run their HIPAA-compliant VMware workloads in a fully compatible VMware Cloud Verified stack running natively in Google Cloud with Google Cloud VMware Engine, without changes or re-architecture to tools, processes, or applications.

With Google Cloud, organizations can leverage solutions that enable secure, continuous patient care and data-driven clinical and operational decisions with ease, while being empowered with collaboration and productivity tools. Further, Google Cloud Platform supports HIPAA compliance. GCP offers HIPAA-regulated customers the same products at the same pricing that is available to all customers, unlike many other cloud providers.

HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) sets the standard for sensitive patient data protection. Companies that deal with protected health information (PHI) must have physical, network, and process security measures in place and follow them to ensure HIPAA Compliance. Covered entities (anyone providing treatment, payment, and operations in healthcare) and business associates (anyone who has access to patient information and provides support in treatment, payment, or operations) must meet HIPAA Compliance. Other entities, such as subcontractors and any other related business associates must also be in compliance.
